We love making pom-poms! And we love finding things to do with them, like putting them on hats, scarves, shirts .......... I am sure that your grandmas girls will love making these, too! They are for everybody, from age three till forever!
We need; 2 donut shapes that you cut out of cereal boxes or cardboard,. The outer circle is a diameter of about 4 inches, and the inner one has a diameter of about 11/2 or 2 inches.
We also need pieces of yarn that are about a yard long. These can be either the same color or many colors, and different thicknesses, too! Look through your stash!

We put the two donuts together and take a piece of wool which we start wrapping around the donut. We keep wrapping it tightly, trying to have each wrap next to the last one, with no space in between them. When the wool is gone, we cut another length of wool and keep going all around the donut! We can stop when we reach the end of the donut, or keep going , wrapping layer on top of layer.
When we have finished wrapping, we very carefully cut the threads along the outer donut, and very very gently pry the donuts apart a little bit. Then we thread a piece of yarn in between the donuts, and pull very very tight. We knot the yarn., and pull out the pom-pom from the donuts, and there, like magic, is our pom-pom!
We really enjoy making these, and so will your own grandmas girls!
Now we have to think of things to do with them, but that is for another time!
